Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will visit Bangkok from November 17-19 on the invitation of Prime Minister of Thailand, Yingluck Shinawatra. According to Foreign Office, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will participate in "Connect Asia Pacific Summit", being held in Bangkok on 18 November.
Prime Minister will also undertake bilateral official visit to Thailand after the Summit commitments. Connect Asia Pacific Summit is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Government of Kingdom of Thailand and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The Summit will, inter alia, be attended by the Presidents of Mongolia and Rwanda and Prime Ministers of New Zealand, Cambodia and Togo.
The visit, which closely follows the visit of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to Pakistan in August this year, is indicative of the closeness of Pakistan-Thailand relations and the desire on part of the leadership of two countries to take these relations to new heights. During their meeting, the two Prime Ministers will review the progress on decisions taken during their August 2013 meeting in Islamabad. Pakistan and Thailand enjoy cordial relationship, marked by mutual understanding and close co-operation. These ties date back more than two millennia. Gandhara Civilisation provides an immutable bond between the peoples of the two countries.
The two countries have sought to upgrade their political relations with deeper co-operation in trade, investment, education, science & technology, security, defence, culture, tourism, etc. In essence, bilateral relations are being deepened and broadened at the government-to-government, business-to-business and people-to-people level. The Prime Minister's visit will further augment the existing close ties between the two friendly countries and their peoples.
