Defence of Pakistan Council (DPC) was observed 'Protest Day' on Friday against drone strikes in Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahimyarkhan, Sahiwal, Muzaffargarh, Vehari and other cities. More than 150 activists of religious outfits (JI, JuD, JUI-s) took part in the demonstration at Chowk Nawan Shehr, the protesters held up placards and banners and shouted slogans against the US and drone strikes, they also burnt US flag.
Condemnation resolutions were also passed against drone strikes. The clerics, Rao Zafar Iqbal and other criticised the government and especially Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan alleging that he can officially conceal the drone casualties of civilians.
They stressed unity of the Muslim world to foil conspiracies against Islam. They demanded of the government to inform the US that it should stop drones attacks if it wanted safe exit from Afghanistan. "All accords with US regarding strategic partnership ended after first drone attack," they said.
They suggested the government to issue directives for shooting down drones and closure of Nato supply. "US wants to take revenge from Pakistan for its defeat in Afghanistan through drones," he said. They vowed to start movement against drones in every nook and cranny of the country under the banner of Defence of Pakistan Council. They also warned that US wanted to sabotage the proposed talks with Taliban.
In Bahawalpur, more than 200 DPC activists staged demonstration against drone attacks outside Farid Gate and on College Road, Bahawalnagar. The protesters took out rallies to condemn the drone attacks and demanded immediate stoppage of the attacks. They were joined by the JUP and PTI workers.
