Pakistan State Oil Company Limited (PSO), the oil marketing leader and one of the largest companies in Pakistan, has undertaken a major human resource development and organisational transformation initiative in line with best international practices. In this regard, a high level seminar by Professor Zafar Iqbal Qureshi was organised at PSO House, Karachi which was attended by members of management of PSO from all across the country, many of whom participated through video conferencing.
Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi is one of the founders of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and the Chief of Party, Assessment and Strengthening Programme currently funded by US Aid. Dr Zafar has over 40 years of experience and his research interests are in the areas of change management, leadership and organisational design and performance management.
In his presentation, Dr Zafar Iqbal gave an overview of change management and its positive impact on organisational development. He apprised the audience on the benefits of effective and organisational development which included an organisation's ability to successfully meet current and future business challenges while enhancing the return on investment.
He further outlined that change management is a gradual process and one which needs to be communicated, accepted and implemented by employees at all levels in order to be truly effective in bringing about actual change in the company. Speaking at the occasion, Amjad Parvez Janjua Managing Director PSO said that the company considers its human resource capital as a strategic asset. He said that PSO is focused on the development of its human resource in line with the international best practices by providing employees with growth and development opportunities through various customised training sessions. By doing so the company aims to maximise employee productivity and enhance the company's overall performance.
This seminar was followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Center for Governance and Public Management (CGPM), Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). By signing this MoU, PSO and CGPM, SBDS will initiate efforts to build PSO's organisational capacity through assessment of organisational development needs and structuring of training programs for different tiers of the organisation. Pakistan State Oil believes in the development of its human resources for increased employee productivity and improved company performance.
