Former Punjab Minister for Industries and ex-President Multan Chamber Khawaja Muhammad Jalaluddin Roomi has welcomed the approval of Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) Plus status for Pakistan by the European Union (EU) International Trade Committee and termed it a good omen for export-oriented industry of the county.
In a press statement issued here on Sunday, he lauded the decision of European Union (EU) Parliament's International Trade Committee to grant the GSP plus status to Pakistan and hoped that this would boost the value-added sector's exports and create job opportunities. Roomi urged the European Parliament's plenary session meeting to finally pass the resolution in favour of Pakistan, which is a frontline state and ally of the US and European Union in its fight against terrorism. However, he said that if the GSP plus status is granted to the country in the European Parliament's plenary session to be held on December 10, 2013, the government would have to implement all the 27 international conventions on human rights, labour standard, environment and good governance, as well as carry out complete homework in this regard.
