A high-level meeting of Jamaat-i-Islami, held at its headquarter Mansoora on Monday with JI Ameer Syed Munawwar Hassan in the chair, declared that the "armed forces had no right whatsoever to directly interfere in politics or democratic issues." JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, while briefing media men after the meeting said that the primary issues at present were the Nato supplies and drone attacks, but certain elements were highlighting "irrelevant issues."
--- 'Armed forces have no right to interfere in politics...'
Baloch was flanked by JI deputy chiefs Dr Muhammad Kamal and Sirajul Haq. He said the meeting discussed the current situation in the country besides what he said 'the political and non-military' press release issued by the ISPR that had demanded an explanation from the JI. The meeting, he said, was of the considered view that the armed forces had no right to directly interfere in politics.
Baloch said the meeting decided to draw the attention of the federal government to the matter as the armed forces' right to interfere in politics could not be countenanced. He said the high-level meeting, however, expressed it surprise over how numerous resolutions through the JI and Syed Munawar Hasan paid tributes to the Jawans and officers of the armed forces and the security institutions and their martyrs, including the martyrs of Salala and Upper Dir, could be ignored by the military high-ups.
The meeting also resolved that Pakistan must be extricated from the US war forthwith as it was the continuation of military dictator Pervez Musharraf's policy. The meeting also assured the nation that the JI would continue its struggle for the national security, towards freeing the country from the US 'slavery'. The party will also continue to make efforts towards safeguarding the ideological and geographical boundaries of the country. The meeting was attended by JI deputy chiefs Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam Saleemi, Dr Muhammad Kamal, Sirajul Haq, Maulana Abdul Ma'lik, Hafiz Muhammad Idrees, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, Hafiz Sajid Anwar and others.
