Polio volunteer ladies would be recruited in the district besides engaging entire lady staff of Health and Population Departments (HPDs) to achieve the 100 percent target of anti-polio campaign. This was decided during a District Polio Eradication Committee meeting held here under the chairmanship of DCO Noor-ul-Amin Mengal to finalise the anti-polio campaign which would continue from 18th to 20th November in the district.
The DCO ordered to monitor the campaign on the grass-roots level so that no child of under-5 years of age could remain without having polio drops. Emphasising upon launching the massive awareness campaign he advised that the services of ulema/prayer leaders should be obtained for massage of anti-polio campaign in Jumma sermons and announcements through mosque loudspeakers for the awareness of parents. DCO directed that the information banners regarding anti-polio campaign should be displayed on the entry points of every village in the district besides displaying these banners on the conspicuous places of tehsil and district headquarters. The DCO constituted Union Council polio eradication committee and tehsil polio eradication committees to supervise the anti-polio campaign and said daily progress would be reviewed at the end of the day during the three days' campaign. He ordered to set up anti-polio control room at DCO office equipped with the supervision plan and details of the staff engaged in the anti- polio campaign. He asked the Secretary DRTA to arrange anti-polio camps at all public transport stands during the campaign and said public transport stand should immediately be sealed in case of non-co-operation in this regard. During the meeting it was decided that the speech contests would be held on 18th November at Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Auditorium on the subject of anti-polio campaign among the students of public and private schools. Member District Core Committee Sahibzada Zahid Mehmud Qasmi and General Secretary Anjuman Tajran Mehmud Alam Jatt assured their all out co-operation to vaccinate the children against the polio disease. World Health Organisation representatives Dr Asif, Dr Mumtaz Lughari and Dr Murtaza put their suggestions for effective monitoring of the anti-polio campaign.
EDO Health Dr Waqar Sadiq and DOH Dr Liaqat Ali gave briefing regarding the micro plan of the anti-polio campaign and informed that training of the staff has been completed while 6 tehsils support persons and 8 union council workers of world health organisation would also supervise the performance of health department teams during the anti-polio campaign.
Meanwhile, DCO Noor-ul-Amin Mengal visited Samundri road and check the quality of construction work of road near Novelty Bridge which is being completed under the supervision of NLC. He asked the NLC engineers to complete other remaining projects of construction of roads. He directed that the all sorts of encroachment should be removed from Novelty Bridge. He issued directions for preparing complete plan of jail road and jhang road improvement earliest. EDO Works Muhammad Iqbal, Resident Engineer NESPAK Amjid Saeed, DO Roads Muhammad Younis and NLC Engineer Colonel Rasheed were present on the occasion. Later, the DCO inspected the renovation work of historical district council building and issued necessary directions to preserve this building as a national heritage. He informed that the building of canteen in front of Zila Council building has been demolished to clear the view of this historical building. The DCO also took a round of the city and examined the green belts in different localities and directed the MD PHA to arrange seasonal flower saplings in line with the horticulture science. He directed for devising elaborated plan to enhance the beauty of the city.
