Awami Muslim League (AML), Chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmad on Saturday, urging the government to compensate the victims, said that the involvement of third element cannot be ruled out in the clashes between Shia and Sunni in Rawalpindi. Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad in press conference on Saturday said that third element may be involved in Shia-Sunni conflict during Ashura procession in Rawalpindi.
He said that the people seen in the attack on Mosque are totally unknown to him as he belongs to the same areas where the violence took place. According to him, at least 11 persons were killed in the attack and over 50 were injured of which some are in critical condition. Sheikh Rasheed urged the government of Punjab to take serious notice of the violent act and bring the culprits to justice, besides providing financial assistance to all those shopkeepers whose shops were burnt by miscreants.
He said that Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif must take notice and provide affected shopkeepers with all necessary help, adding that High Court must investigate the incident. The AML Chief emphasised that religious clerics must play their role for restoring peace in the city.
Sheikh Rasheed said that he has no contact with local administration of Rawalpindi since yesterday. He also criticised police for not performing its duties during sectarian clash. He questioned the failure of law enforcement agencies in controlling the situation as why they did not use tear gas and other available resources to control the situation and let the criminals snatched police weapons. The government should arrest all those persons who have returned looted guns of police to assure the people of the city that the government was serious in restoring peace of the city. Sheikh asked the chief minister of Punjab to consider Rawalpindi as his city and take all necessary steps in maintaining the peace of the city.
