Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) on Saturday demanded the authority to direct terminal operators for the waiver of demurrage charges, following ongoing goods carriers strike. Talking to Business Recorder Faisal Mushtaq, general secretary, KCAA, said that authorities should intervene into the matter to resolve the issue, amicably. He said that necessary instruction should also be communicated to the terminal operators for the waiver of demurrage, following goods carriers strike.
He said that the strike would lead to create chaos at ports where no space would be available for containers' examination that would result in long delays and trade has to pay demurrages, detention and other charges. Therefore, KCAA has requested the authorities to direct terminal operators for the waiver of demurrage and other charges. He also lashed out at authorities for failure to pacify and help resolve issues with the transporters and make them convinced to call off their strike.
