Eighty nine more dengue fever cases were reported on Sunday, taking the number of confirmed patients in the province to 1,912. Media reports said that out of 89 new cases, 70 were reported from Lahore alone as dengue virus continues to surge despite no let up in the Health departments to control the virus. Anwar Ali aged, 70, of Bibi Pakdaman, Lahore died of the fever at the Sheikh Zaid Hospital on Sunday.
Earlier the government officials confirmed that 34 new dengue cases were found in Punjab in the last 24 hours on Saturday by the municipal hospitals. The people have urged the provincial government and health authorities to take concrete steps to control the disease instead of making tall claims.
According to the doctors, it is easy to differentiate between viral fever and dengue. In viral infection, the patient would have running nose, throat pain, mild body ache and weakness. In dengue, the patient would have high-grade fever, severe body ache, joint pains and rashes, which may turn pink within 24 to 48 hours of contracting fever.
