A meeting of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is likely to be held in first week of December to review the audit objections made against the previous government of Pakistan People's Party. Constitutional bodies, certain ministries and divisions have been issued directives to hold meetings of Departmental Accounts Committees (DAC) regularly to compile the audit reports prior to the PAC meeting.
The PAC has also shown serious concerns over the non-serious attitude of various ministries and divisions over non-compliance with the early directives of the PAC and issued notices to them. In notices, the PAC Secretariat has convened a meeting according to a notification. The notification has been dispatched to various ministries and government departments which failed to comply with the directives taken in the previous meetings of the PAC.
In notification, it has been stated that the PAC has been constituted and its meetings are likely to be held in first week of December. The PAC will take up all pending Auditor General's reports. The PAC Secretariat observes that the DAC meetings were not being convened by certain ministries and divisions and constitutional bodies, which were causing unnecessary delay in disposing of pending audit reports. The Secretaries and Principal Account Officers of all ministries, divisions and constitutional bodies are requested to ensure holding of DAC meetings regularly on monthly basis on pending Auditor General's Reports prior to appear before the PAC to minimise the workload and to save time of the PAC. All PAO's must personally preside over the DAC meetings to ensure effective disposal of pending audit reports. The Auditor General of Pakistan is also asked to direct all the relevant Director Generals to ensure their co-operation with PAOs and attend the DAC meetings.
