The Punjab government has formed a three-member Judicial Commission, a Fact Finding Committee (FFC) and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the Friday incident in the garrison city. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted the FFC to interrogate police officials and disciplinary action be taken against those who showed negligence to their duty on the day.
He said that the FFC, which led by Chief Minister Inspection Team led by Najam Saeed that includes Secretary Prosecution Nadeem Irshad Kiyani and Additional Inspector General (investigation) Muhammad Amlesh, would prepare a report pertaining to the tragic incident within seven days.
About the formation of the JIT, he said that the JIT led by SSP (security) Dar Ali Khattak, who was on duty where the clashes took place, would also investigate the carnage in light of the FIR registered against the incident. He told the media that Judicial Commission (JC) headed by Lahore High Court Judge Justice Mamoon Rasheed Sheikh was tasked to probe the incident and produce the report to the chief minister Punjab.
Besides this, another committee, led by Member National Assembly Malik Ibrar which includes Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Sardar Naseem, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce President Dr Shamail Khwaja and traders' representative Arshad Awan, has also been set up with the purpose to assess the damages to public property and present a report to the minister within 48 hours. He assured that affected traders would be compensated in light of the assessments' reports of the committee.
About the death toll in the incident, Rana Sanullah told the media that the death toll has mounted to 10, while 56 others were injured in the incident. He said that the government would repair the affected mosque. The Minister said around 150 people, who were attending a mourning procession, attacked a mosque in Raja Bazaar, which triggered the clash. However, he remained tight-lipped and did not elaborate it any further, saying that the matter is sub Judice. Rana Sanaullah, appreciating media for playing a positive role on the day, said that "The media played its role responsibly and CM and government of Punjab appreciated it."
