Pakistan Bed Wear Exporters Association (PBEA) has regretted the lack of apathy of the government in resolving transporters' strike issue which has almost crippled the exporters. Patron-in-chief of PBEA, Shabir Ahmed questioned why did the government sleep on this vital issue for last two weeks? Due to the strike Pakistan not only had lost valuable foreign exchange but the economy also badly suffered a big damage as billions of rupees were lost during this period, he said.
Exporters had to face heavy penalties for late deliveries of the consignments as this was a peak Christmas season. Exporters had to airlift the goods at heavy costs to keep their buyers in tact. Who is responsible for this loss? It would have been better if the government would have wakened up earlier to resolve this matter but it did not happen, he said
Shabir Ahmed also lashed out at freight forwarders, accusing them of blackmailing exporters by charging huge handling charges. He further had a dig at the government on the question of giving too many holidays which is affecting the foreign exchange which Pakistan needs badly as it could be seen that the dollar is going up and our Rupee is getting weaker and weaker every day. He requested to Nawaz Sharif to ponder these points: 1. Investigate why the delay in handling the strike, and 2. Why unnecessary holidays. Shabir also demanded that Saturday's holiday should be withdrawn otherwise our economy would suffer irreparable damage.
