After failing in the US market, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei is reportedly working on getting their own operating system (OS), if things go south with Google’s Android too.

An on-going trade tension in the US has reportedly led world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer to develop their separate OS. Citing people familiar with the brand’s plan, South China Morning Post reported that the company’s founder Ren Zhengfei initiated the plan as part of a strategic investment to foresee ‘worst-case scenarios.’ The report further stated that Huawei has not released the OS since it was not able to meet the quality standards of Android.

Huawei in hot water after users in US told not to use its products

Huawei is not able to rule over the US market after the company has been under scrutiny from the US government. For years US authorities have been investigating the company’s suspected shipping of US-origin products to countries that have been designated as supporters of international terrorism including Iran, defying US export and sanction laws.

The reports were followed by a warning issued by intelligence agencies to US citizens about purchasing Huawei phones as concerns were raised that they were using technology to spy on the US officials.

Huawei fears the tensions between the company and US could end up losing its Android license from Google. According to Engadget, the Chinese cellular-electronics giant has not confirmed the software’s existence saying just that it ‘has no plans’ to launch an in-house OS.
