The rupee moved slightly against the dollar on the local currency market on Wednesday, dealers said. The rupee shed only one-paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 104.89 and Rs 104.91 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee held the overnight levels in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 105.30 and Rs 105.50 respectively. It extended its fall versus the euro losing 25 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 145.00 and Rs 145.25, they said.
In the third Asian trade, the euro touched a seven-week high against the dollar on Wednesday, with the greenback struggling in the wake of more soft economic data and news that foreign investors had been heavy sellers of US assets. The euro held steady at $1.3761, having touched a high near $1.3773 earlier on Wednesday, its strongest level in about seven weeks.
The dollar was trading at Rs 62.20 versus the Indian rupee, the US currency was at 3.3000 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the greenback was at 6.0737 against the Chinese yuan Interbank buy/sell rates for the taka against the dollar on Wednesday: 77.75-77.75 (77.75-77.75). RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee remained weak and registered marginal decline of five-paisa against the US dollar on the local currency market on Wednesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 105.60 and Rs 105.85 as its buying and selling rates, respectively.
The dollar's opening rates continued to prevail almost throughout the day. However, at close, the dollar was ended slightly higher at Rs 105.65 and Rs 105.90 on buying and selling side, respectively.
On the contrary, the rupee recovered some of its earlier loss and was improved against the British pound. The pound's buying and selling rates were slide down from Tuesday closing of Rs 176.80 and Rs 177.05 to Rs 176.50 and Rs 176.75, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Wednesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 106 for buying and Rs 106.25 for selling against last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 106 for buying and Rs 106.25 for selling.
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 173 for buying and Rs 173.50 for selling against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
