Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in a meeting with Chairman of the Pakistani Senate Syed Nayyer Bokhari in Tehran, called on Pakistan to improve its domestic security in a bid to stop terrorists' activities along its borders with Iran. Rouhani's remarks came after the outlawed Jeish al-Adl radical Sunni Wahhabi movement claimed responsibility for the abduction of five Iranian border guards earlier this month.
Rouhani expressed the hope that the security conditions inside Pakistan would improve so much that extremism and terrorism were weakened in the country, and said, "Our borders should remain secure and these incidents (abduction of Iranian border guards) are not acceptable and we ask the Pakistani government to make use of all its ability to resolve this problem."
He underlined continued anti-terrorism co-operation between Iran and Pakistan, and said, "We will cooperate with Pakistan to resolve the problem of terrorism through joint action." Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari is leading Pakistan Parliamentary delegation to attend ninth meeting of Organisation of the Islamic Co-operation (OIC)-Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tehran.
The Iranian President warmly welcomed Pakistani dignitaries and conveyed best regards to leadership in Pakistan, says a message received here. He said both the governments in Pakistan and Iran were looking forward to utilise their potential to enhance co-operation in trade and economy to commensurate with political goodwill.
The Chairman Senate while thanking the President for his warm sentiments towards Pakistan, its leadership and people, remarked that Pakistan shared his vision to focus on enhanced co-operation in trade and economy and for roadmap to achieve it. The Chairman Senate also met with Dr Ali Larijam, Speaker of Iranian Majlis and exchanged ideas for promoting parliamentary exchange. He also met M H Nejad Hossoinian, Secretary General, APA and discussed matters related to Asian Parliamentary Assembly. Chairman Senate is current President of APA.
