Minister of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Lieutenant General Abdul Qadir Baloch (retd) has said that the government has prepared a plan to register around 1.5 million unregistered Afghan refugees. "The plan is ready to register around 1.5 million illegal Afghan refugees and the government would soon start exercise to register the Afghan refugees in various parts of the country' he said while talking to APP.
He said as per agreement with the international organizations, Afghan refugees will have to leave Pakistan by end of 2015. Pakistan remains the world's largest refugee hosting nation, and has generously hosted millions of Afghan refugees since the Soviet invasion of 1979, he added.
The Minister said Pakistan was no more in a position to host more Afghan refugees.
Baloch said presently Pakistan was providing all facilities to around three million Afghan refugees for the last many years.
To another question, he admitted that it would be difficult for the government to send Afghan refugees to their homeland as many of them had made identity cards, purchased land and constructed houses.
However, he said if needed in future, the Afghan refugee camps would be established alongwith the borders areas.
He said it was recommended to UNHCR to give $250 dollars to each family voluntarily leaving Pakistan.
To a query, he said, Frontier Corps law would be implemented on levies force as for the last 60 years no promotion had been made in the force.
