The Karachi Port handled 99,088 tonnes of cargo comprising 62,570 tonnes of import cargo and 36,518 tonnes of export cargo including 1,810 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 62,570 tonnes comprised of 6,592 tonnes of containerised cargo; 54 tonnes of general cargo; 15,083 tonnes of bulk cargo and 40,841 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 36,518 tonnes comprised of 23,089 tonnes of containerised cargo; 265 tonnes of general cargo and 1,964 tonnes of bulk cargo and 11,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 1,810 containers comprising 542 containers import and 1,268 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 207 of 20's and 97 of 40's loaded while 5 of 20's and 68 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 756 of 20's and 110 of 40's loaded containers while 54 of 20's and 119 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were six ships namely Northern Power, Kota Harum, MT Quetta, Southern Ibis, Glory Atlantic and BBC Tasmania carrying containers, oil tankers, cement and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were three vessels viz Galbot, AS Orelia and BBC Tasmania carrying oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely Galbot and Beech-4 with oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while two ships namely AS Orelia and Genuine Venus with oil tankers respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday. There were four vessels Kota Kasturi, Hyundai Jakarta, Pona and Alexandors-III carrying containers and rolled coails respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while six vessels viz Wan Hai-513, PAC Aries, Hanjin San Francisco, Ever Result, Finisterre and Diamond Star carrying containers and coal respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
The total import cargo of 49,237 tonnes includes 17,304 tonnes of furnace oil and 4,000 tonnes of edible oil; 9,180 tonnes of chemicals and 18,753 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 7,140 tonnes of containerised cargo. There was one ship namely MT Feng Hai-32 with oil tanker sailed out to sea on Tuesday morning. A total number of four vessels viz CV Safmarine Ngami, MV Atlantic Glory, MT Lahore and MT Feng Hai-32 are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, chemicals, furnace oil and edible oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as five ships namely Sealand Washington, Sakaka, Notd Tradition, Ocean Future and Bunga Angsana with containers, chemicals, cement and edible oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were four vessels with containers, chemicals and furnace oil took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Monday. There are four ships namely CV Sealand Washington, CV Sakaka, MV Ocean Future and MT Bunga Angsana with containers, cement and edible oil due to arrive on Tuesday at Port Qasim.
