The rupee extended its slide versus the dollar in the interbank market on Tuesday, dealers said. The rupee lost further eight paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 105.08 and Rs 105.10 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee was unchanged against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 105.30 and Rs 105.50 respectively, in the meantime, the rupee recovered 45 paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 144.80 and Rs 145.05 respectively, they said.
In the second Asian trade, the dollar steadied against its rivals in Asian trade on Tuesday with major currency pairs sticking to tight ranges as traders awaited economic data later in the session for more clarity on the pace of the US economic recovery. Market participants in Asia remained focused on China, where a recent spate of soft data has raised concerns about the outlook for growth, in addition to lingering fears about the impact of the government's efforts to cool the property market.
The dollar was traded against the Indian rupee at Rs 62.01, the greenback was at 3.2740 in terms of the Malaysian Ringgit and the US currency was at 6.119 in relation to the Chinese Yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee maintained surge and improved by 10 paisa on buying side at Rs 105.70 and 30 paisa on selling side at Rs 106.00 against the US dollar on the local currency market on Tuesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar opened on a negative sign and remained under pressure in the absence of buyers' interest. The dollar was ended lower at Rs 105.70 and Rs 106.00 on buying and selling counter against Rs 105.80 and Rs 106.30 of Monday, respectively.
However, the rupee-pound sterling parity remained unchanged amid sluggish trading trend. The dollar was traded at its overnight closing of Rs 175.50 and Rs 176.50 on buying and selling side, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained 30 paisa against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 105.70 (buying) and Rs 105.80 (selling) against last week's rate of Rs 106 (buying) and Rs 106.25 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 105.70 (buying) and Rs 105.80 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 174.90 (buying) and Rs 175 (selling) against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
