The Additional Sessions Judge (ADSJ) of Islamabad court Saturday granted a one-day (yesterday) exemption to former president General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) to appear in Abdul Rasheed Ghazi's murder case. The ADSJ, Wajid Ali heard Abdul Rasheed Ghazi's case against the former president and summoned him on the next date of hearing on March 15.
During the course of proceeding, Akhtar Shah, the counsel for Musharraf, pleaded before the court that his client was unable to appear before the court due to security concerns and the court could grant him exemption for one-day. While granting a one-day exemption to Musharraf, the ADSJ directed the defence counsel to ensure the presence of his client on the next date of hearing.
Besides, the court decided it would also discuss a petition filed by defence counsel regarding permanent exemption to Musharraf from court appearance in the next hearing. Tariq Asad, plaintiff's lawyer, raised objection on the petition filed by former president Musharraf and pleaded to terminate his bail in the case and issue his arrest warrants. Asad contended that the law applied to everyone equally. Pervez Musharraf is facing sickness, but his medical report has also not been submitted to the court, according to him.
The court while adjourning the case ordered the Islamabad police to present an interim challan of the case till the next date of hearing. It is pertinent to mention that the ADSJ Wajid Ali had granted bail to Musharraf in the Abdul Rasheed Ghazi murder case against two surety bonds of Rs 100, 000 each. The former President had also filed a petition in the court to seek permanent exemption from making appearance in the Ghazi Abdur Rasheed 'murder' case. The Lal Masjid operation was carried out in Musharraf's tenure in 2007.
