Experts highlight diabetes prevention, sustainable solutions: two-day PDLF begins

"There are around 6.7 million people suffering from diabetes in Pakistan. It is estimated that this number will rise to 12.8 million by 2035, which puts Pakistan among the top countries with the highest number of population suffering from diabetes." This was stated by the experts at the opening session of the two-day Pakistan Diabetes Leadership Forum (PDLF), in Islamabad. Speakers from Europe, Middle East and Pakistan are taking part in this forum.
Session was also addressed by Saira Afzal Tarar, Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulation and Co-ordination. She stated that Pakistan Diabetes Leadership Forum is addressing not only one of the most critical health issues in the world - but especially in Pakistan.
She thanked both the national and international participants and the sponsors for joining this important initiative to fight against diabetes. "The challenge is great in size and complexity and will require the focus of policy makers, healthcare professionals, industry and media alike", she said. The first panel discussion consisted of high level dignitaries such as Sir Michael Hirst, President of the International Diabetes Federation, Professor Pierre Lefebvre, Chairman of the World Diabetes Foundation and Lars Rebien Sorensen, CEO and President of Novo Nordisk.
