The Awami National Party (ANP) on Sunday welcomed the Taliban's cease-fire announcement and asked the government to hold talks with the other side directly.
Talking to media persons here, the ANP acting president Haji Muhammad Adeel said the Taliban should be explained in clear terms that the cease-fire applies on the whole country, not Fata only. He said the Taliban should also be asked to name those groups who are against the peace talks. He said both the government and Taliban committees were useless and both the sides should hold dialogue directly.
The ANP leader condemned attacks on security men escorting polio teams in Jamrud area of Khyber Agency, and stressed that the Taliban should also announce that they will not harm the polio teams in future.
