Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has welcomed the month-long cease fire announced by the Taliban and the positive response by the government stopping military action. In a statement issued here on Sunday, he urged the government to resume talks at the earliest for bringing and end to terrorism and restoring peace in the region. He pointed out that the government had already wasted a long time in starting talks despite the APC's collective decision in this respect.
He counselled Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to personally lead the talks instead of depending on co-ordination committees. Similarly, he said, the Taliban should involve their leading persons in the talks process so that they could take important decisions.
Syed Munawar Hasan said that those who were still talking of operation and the use of force did not want peace in the country and were keen to push Pakistan into chaos and anarchy, while the nation wanted peace. He said that for the last twelve years, Pakistan had been in the grip of terrorism, while the US and India missed no opportunity to sabotage the talks.
