Punjab Minister for Finance, Excise and Taxation Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that social development is necessary for economic development, and it is not possible without appropriate control on population, whereas the poverty and ignorance are main hurdles.
Talking to a delegation of community leaders, doctors and paramedics, the Minister said if population growth-rate remained unchecked, it would be dangerous for socio-economic progress of the country. He said the effective results could only be achieved by incorporating medical practitioners to the population welfare programmes to create awareness among the masses about the consequences of rapid population growth.
Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said all-out assistance would be provided to the medical practitioners for controlling the population. He said to save the coming generations from serious socio-economic problems; we should treat the issue seriously and control the population rate. Special attention would be given on to the education of women especially in the remote areas, he added.
The Provincial Minister said that the government, in a view, to implement a comprehensive plan for provision of better healthcare facilities to the masses and for this purpose all available resources would be utilised. The provincial government was in co-operation with international donor agencies ie UNICEF/WHO, he said.
