Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Punjab Women Wing has arranged a seminar to celebrate the International Women's Day on Wednesday. Dr. Nasira Javed was the chief guest at the seminar while PTI Punjab Women Wing president Saloni Bukhari and other office bearers also present on the occasion.
While addressing the seminar the PTI leaders highlighted the importance of the International Women's Day celebration while the chief guest gave a comprehensive talk on the role Pakistani women in the Pakistani society and their contribution in non-traditional fields and professions.
They brought to light the importance of encouraging and ingraining self respect of women in society. They also discussed the contribution of women in the informal labour sectors, like the home based workers and domestic workers. They underlined the need for the ratification of the ILO's Conventions on home based workers and domestic workers.
In their opinion this would facilitate the legislation of laws for the recognition of these women as workers under the Labour Laws of Pakistan and provide social security for this extremely marginalized sector consisting mainly of women and children. They also highlighted that the crimes against women has increased and that though laws have been legislated, their implementation remain absent and due to lack of any effective mechanism, due to the callous apathy on the part of the successive governments.
The speakers demanded the adoption of PTI's Women Protection Bill in the Punjab Assembly. This law will safeguard security of women, which has so far been avoided by those who have been in government, they added.
