In view of a number of deaths of children, owing to malnutrition, in Thar Desert, Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, has directed to dispatch as many as 20,000 food bags forthwith to the inhabitants of Thar, to alleviate the sufferings of the affected families.
Punjab ministers Chaudhary Shafiq and Wahid Arain would lead the caravan comprising 25 trucks laden with food bags from Lahore so that the lives of the residents of Thar Desert facing malnutrition, might be saved, disclosed an official here on Saturday. Shahbaz has also directed the Director General Punjab Disaster Management to accompany the caravan as well. Each food bag contains wheat flour, rice, ghee, pulses, sugar, tea and mineral water bottles. One such food bag is sufficient for seven-day food needs of an average family.
