Mixed trend was witnessed in the prices of majority of the essential food items, as some registered slight increase while others remained unchanged last week as compared to the preceding week, reveals a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday.
During the week under review, potatoes were being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 40 per kg last week price, registering an increase of Rs 5 per kg, tomatoes were being sold at Rs 63 to Rs 67 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, reflecting an increase of Rs 3-7 per kg, bananas were available at Rs 90-140 per dozen against Rs 80-130 per dozen, registering an increase of Rs 10 per dozen, wheat flour (10 kg bag) was being sold at Rs 430 against Rs 415, reflecting an increase of Rs 15 per bag, vegetable ghee loose was being sold at Rs 140-170 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week.
However, prices of vegetables which remain unchanged last week as compared to the preceding week include: peas were being sold at Rs 55 per kg, green chili at Rs 90 per kg carrot and radish were being sold at Rs 30 per kg, ginger at Rs 200 per kg and garlic was being sold at Rs 140 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week.
Meanwhile, prices of different kinds of fruits in the markets of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad were almost remain stable during the period under review: kino was being sold at Rs 80- 140 per dozen, malta was available at Rs 115-180 per dozen. Apple was being sold at Rs 100- 160 per kg, grapes were available at Rs 300 per kg, and guava was being sold at Rs 70-100 per kg.
The survey noted that meat prices remain stable in all markets of the twin cities as mutton was being sold at Rs 600-620 per kg, while beef was being sold at Rs 300 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week. However, slight decline was witnessed in chicken prices as it was being sold at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 165-170 per kg last week price.
Non-perishable food items, which prices remain stable last week as compared to the preceding week include: cooking oil tin (2.5 liter) at Rs 540, curd at Rs 90 per kg, milk fresh at Rs 70-85, moong washed was being sold at Rs 145-150 per kg, masoor washed was available at Rs 130-140 per kg, mash washed at Rs 140-160 per kg, rice at Rs 70- 150 per kg, Tea loose Rs 560 per kg, spices were available at Rs 290-300 (250 gm), eggs were being sold at Rs 112-115 per dozen, sugar was being sold at Rs 55 - 60 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week.
