Fluctuation has been witnessed in prices of vegetables this week in the open market except tomato rates which surged sharply and then turned downwards Tomato, in open markets, increased from Rs 20 per kg to Rs 75 per kg and now it once again has come down to Rs 40 per kg.
The retailers claimed that the price increased due to export of tomato and now its supply has once again improved owing to reduction of its export They were of the view that price of tomato may go down further in coming days. The prices of potatoes and onion increased and the prices of green chilies remained stable. The rate of potato increased to Rs 40 per kg from Rs 20 per kg last week. The rate of carrot has also increased to Rs 35 per kg from Rs 20 per kg in open market.
The customers were of the view that in spite of increased supply from upcountry overcharging was continuing in the markets. The prices of ginger remained to Rs 200 per kg while garlic was sold for Rs 140 per kg. The price of lemon increased by Rs 10 per kg and touched Rs 150 per kg. The prices of onions also showed a downward trend and they were sold for Rs 30 to Rs 45 per kg depending on quality.
