Director General Strategic Plans Division (SPD) Lieutenant General Zubair Mehmood Hayat and Chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Ansar Pervez here on Friday called on the Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar. The Chairman PAEC briefed the Minister on financial aspects of the two nuclear power plants (Kanupp-2&3) with a combined capacity of 2,000 MW to tackle the energy crisis.
The Finance Minister assured of the Ministry's full support for nuclear power generation projects, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance here on Friday. Ishaq Dar said nuclear plants would provide electricity at cheaper rates compared to power produced from thermal sources. At present, the country was experiencing a widening gap between power supply and demand, leading to extensive outages that disrupt life and business and shaves three percentage points off economic growth annually, he added. Finance Secretary Dr Waqar Masood, Advisor to the Finance Ministry Rana Assad Amin and Special Assistant to Finance Minister Shahid Mehmood were also present in the meeting.
