Eleven more Pakistanis are scheduled to be released from Bagram Prison by the end of May next. Ministry for Foreign Affairs told this to Lahore High Court here on Friday during the course of proceedings of a petition filed by Justice Project Pakistan (JPP) against detention of the Pakistanis detained in Bagram Prison in Afghanistan by the US forces.
Earlier the counsel for JPP, Barrister Sarah Belal, brought to the notice of the court the lack of details submitted by the ministry on the identity of the next batch of Pakistani detainees due to be released. In response to this, the court directed the ministry to get the identities of these 11 detainees verified by NADRA and to submit a report in the court within fortnight.
Sarah Belal then stated to the court that the last time the families and lawyers were not informed about Pakistani citizens who were released from Bagram Prison and they were held later. She further stated that it was only through the efforts of court that the whereabouts of those six were disclosed. At this the court directed the ministry to immediately inform the court as soon as these 11 Pakistanis are released and repatriated.
