The Punjab government has earmarked Rs 400 million to set up a state-of-the-art women hostel for 1,000 students equipped with modern facilities at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). It was approved at the meeting of Annual Development Programme. UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said this while addressing the students at sport events organised by The Agrarian Society of the UAF.
The Vice Chancellor said the amount will be released in the coming financial year. He maintained that the University enrolment had crossed 16,000 students in which around 50 per cent were residing in university hostels. The university was facing the accommodation issues because of increasing enrolment, he said, adding besides setting up the hostel, the university has mapped out a comprehensive plan to convert the eight residential houses into girls' hostels.
He said the quality education was prerequisite to catch up the modern world. He stressed upon the students to acquire the knowledge with dedication and motivation so that they can shoulder their responsibilities effectively. He also praised the Punjab government for providing 50 foreign scholarships, in the first phase, out of 300 scholarships announced by the Punjab Chief Minster for the UAF. The trained and highly educated manpower is the guarantee of the bright future.
Punjab Government initiative will help strengthen the agriculture sector owing to trained and qualified manpower, he added. He also announced that flood with lights would be installed at the university cricket ground in order to facilitate the students. Agrarian Society Pattern Professor Dr Amjad Aulak was also present on the occasion. The students of Soil and Environmental Sciences won the tug-of-war and Rangoli competition whereas UAF Afghan Students Team bagged the cricket tournament trophy.
