The National Assembly was informed on Friday that as many as 8,484 people lost their lives in 5,573 terror attacks across the country during the last three years [2010-13]. In a written reply during question hour, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told the house that 3,240 people were killed in Fata in 648 terror attacks, 2,311 killed in 1,499 terror incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the same period.
According to the data, majority of 3.098 terror related incidents took place in Balochistan which claimed lives of 1,985 people during the same period. In Punjab, a total of 543 people were killed in 100 terror related incidents and in Sindh 313 people lost their lives in 157 incidents.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, a total of 66 people lost their lives including 10 foreigners killed at Nanga Parbat in 53 terror related incidents, while in Azad Jammu and Kashmir 10 people were killed in six incidents. A total of 16 people have also been killed in 12 terror related incidents in the federal capital during the same period, according to the Interior Ministry data. In a written reply to another question, the Interior Minister told the house that as many as 185 children have lost their lives in the terror attacks across the country majority of 182 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last five years while 538 others injured.
The data shows records of only from KP, Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan while Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan have no separate data of the children killed in the terror related incidents. To a question whether it is a fact that the United States had provided millions of dollars to compensate the civilian war victims in Pakistan since March 2008 till to date, the interior ministry declined to comment saying it does not relate to the ministry.
Meanwhile, responding to supplementary questions of the lawmakers, Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Maryam Aurangzeb informed the House that 60 banned organisations were being kept under watch as part of efforts to counter terrorism in the country.
