To put pressure on the provincial government for the acceptance of their demands, activists of All CT Teachers Association on Saturday set up a hunger strike camp at main Sher Shah Suri Road outside the Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday. The protest camp was spearheaded by Association's President Bakht Afsar Khan, General Secretary Sattar Khan, and District President Dr Fayyaz Ahmad, along with dozens of CT teachers.
The protesting teachers were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. On the occasion, the Association's President presented a charter of demands, according to which the CT teachers demand for the right to upgradation after five years' services as per verdict of the Peshawar High Court in February this year. They further demanded to give 25 percent quota promotion to SST teachers according to notification, issued in 2012.
The protesting teachers also asked the provincial government and education authorities to ensure issuance of premature increment by following the decision of Federal Government and Supreme Court, and immediate end of political interference in the education institutions in the province. They warned if the provincial government were failed to accept their demands, then they would extend the ongoing agitation campaign to rest part of the province.
