The Punjab Food Department has completed all arrangements for procurement of 3.5 million tons of wheat during the current harvesting season. The department will start distribution of gunny bags among farmers across the province from April 15 in a completely transparent manner. This was stated by the Punjab Minister for Food and the Chairman of Cabinet Price Control Committee, Bilal Yasin, while inaugurating a wheat procurement center in Mughalpura here on Monday.
The minister witnessed the process of wheat procurement and provision of gunny bags to farmers. Food department officials said jute bags were available at the rate of Rs 134 per gunny bags and PP bags at the rate of Rs 38 only whereas wheat would be purchased at the government rate of Rs 1,200 per 40 kgs.
