The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, has said that there is no threat to Parliament, democracy or the Government. Talking to media persons prior to his address at the annual dinner of Pakistan Engineering Council at Qasimabad here on Saturday night, he said that in case of any risk to the democratic system, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will support Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
The opposition leader termed democracy a little child who can commit mistakes, which can be corrected. The PPP leader said that the country faced dictatorial regimes or controlled democracy during the last 65 years, but democracy is now flourishing in the country. About the possibility of an alliance with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in the Sindh Government, the PPP leader said that there could be no last word in politics.
He said that the MQM leadership has already contradicted its statements regarding martial law, adding that all steps will be taken which will be beneficial for the people of the province. To another question, the opposition leader said that Pakistan is a nuclear country and the Government should play the role of an arbitrator among Muslim Ummah.
