Eminent scholars, diplomats and professionals from Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan are putting their heads together Wednesday to explore the "Prospects of Trilateral Co-operation among Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran" in an international conference at a hotel in Islamabad.
It would focus on political, security and economic dynamics of the region in the backdrop of 2014 drawdown in Afghanistan and India-US-Iran and Pakistan-China-Iran triangles, and energy corridors, pipeline politics and regional trade relations. The occasion would be graced by chief guest Cyrill Nunn, Ambassador Federal Republic of Germany.
In his key note address Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production would speak on the Pakistani perspective on regional security. While Ambassador Sherry Rehman, President Jinnah Institute would be the key note speaker in post lunch session.
The international conference is being organised by the Centre for International Strategic Studies (CISS) in collaboration with German foundation, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS). Ambassador Ali Sarwar Naqvi, Executive Director CISS and Ronny Heine, Resident Representative of KAS would kick off the conference that would focus on pertinent regional political dynamics in the backdrop of emerging US-Iran rapprochement, 2014 drawdown of multinational troops from Afghanistan and Indo-Pakistan relations.
This session would be chaired by Dr Pervez Iqbal Cheema, Dean Faculty of Contemporary Studies, National Defence University (NDU), and will be participated by Dr Tahir Amin, Director, National Institute of Pakistan Studies at Quaid-i-Azam University; Dr Riffat Hussain, Head of Department for Government and Public Policy at NUST, and Dr Ashfaq H. Khan, Principal and Dean, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, NUST.
The session on Regional Security Imperatives would be headed by Dr Sarfraz Khan, Professor Area Study Centre at University of Peshawar. The Iranian perspective would be presented by Ambassador Mir Mahmood Mousavi, former Iranian Ambassador in Pakistan and India. While Zardasht Shams, Cultural Attaché, Embassy of Afghanistan would talk about the Afghan perspective.
