The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) have agreed to establish a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre within the chamber's premises in order to facilitate the business community. The agreement was reached during a meeting between President KCCI Abdullah Zaki and CPLC Chief Ahmed Chinoy here on Wednesday. KCCI Senior Vice President Muffasar A Malik, Vice President Muhammad Idrees and Managing Committee members also attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Chinoy said that the Command and Control Centre would help promptly resolve various security issues and complaints regarding extortion, kidnapping for ransom, robberies and other crimes.
He assured his full support and co-operation to the chamber for early setting up of the Centre where officials of Sindh Police, Pakistan Rangers and other LEAs would remain deployed round-the-clock to monitor major commercial markets, particularly the markets in old city areas.
Speaking on the occasion, the KCCI President said that the proposed Command and Control Centre was expected to be established within the next two months, which would be fully equipped with all required facilities. "It will monitor commercial markets across the city through CCTV cameras and provide reporting facility, besides having Complaint Resolution and Bhatta Cells," he added.
He further said that the Centre would maintain computerised records of all complaints along with details of criminals and it would also be linked with all police stations and police mobiles through wireless radio service. Commenting on law and order situation in the city, Zaki said that although a slight improvement had been witnessed as far as the incidents of extortion were concerned but the overall security situation remained fragile.
Speaking on the occasion, the KCCI Vice President said that the chamber had received numerous complaints particularly from the old city areas about misconduct of police officers, who were harassing and blackmailing the businessmen. He urged the IG Sindh to take notice of the situation and take action against the concerned police officers.-PR
