The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned for two weeks the proceedings of a case regarding illegal appointments in the Port Qasim Authority (PQA). A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani heard a contempt of court petition filed by dysfunctional Secretary of PQA Abdul Jabbar Memon against illegal appointments in the authority.
During the course of proceedings, the federal government submitted a reply about the action taken against illegal appointments made in the PQA. The government stated that show-cause notices had been issued to two senior officers of the PQA - Brigadier Kamran Jalil (Retd) who had been appointed as Director General Administration and Nauman Khan, Director General Planning and Development. Both officers were intimated to appear in person before Secretary Port and Shipping on April 20.
The government further stated that academic credentials of 600 employees of the authority were sent to the relevant departments for verification and action would be taken against fake degrees/certificates holders. The court was further informed that 300 illegally appointed employees were sacked while scanning of five senior officers of grade 21 was under process.
The court directed that a copy of the federation's reply would be provided to the petitioner and ordered the petitioner to submit a reply on the next date of hearing. Chairman PQA, Aga Akhtar Jan, Secretary Port and Shipping Habib ullah Khan Khattak, also appeared before the court.
