The Literary Society of the Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC) Hayatabad has arranged annual literary activities on Thursday. In this regard two colourful literary and cultural programmes were organised to highlight the importance of Pashto and Hindko languages and cultures.
Programmes comprised several segments including presentations, speeches, skits and folk songs by the college students, hailing from various areas of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The first programme was arranged to mark the "Pashto Day". The students presented skits and delivered speeches. The function was organised by the Secretary General of the Literary Society, Surkhab Khan. Khyber Medical College Professor Dr Ejazul Hassan was the chief guest.
Literary Society Chairman, Professor Dr Maqbaool Elahi in his speech talked about the importance of the Pashto language and culture. He appreciated the performance of the students in various segments. The second function was arranged to mark the "Hindko Day." A tableau was performed to highlight the importance of education for the physically challenged children, which was appreciated by all.
The Hindko books and literary publications were also put on display. The special issue of a Hindko journal, "Sarkhaill," devoted to living cinema icon from Peshawar, Dilip Kumar, remained the focus of attention. A senior cardiologist, Associate Professor Dr Adnan Gul also graced the occasion. In his speech he said the cultural diversity is a unique feature of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
"Hindko is among the native languages of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has rich literary and cultural heritage that need to be promoted," he added. College Vice Principal, Associate Professor Dr Samina Zahid said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is blessed with sweet languages and beautiful cultures. These languages and cultures give a great characteristic to the province that should be highlighted, she mentioned.
