Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Friday said that loadshedding in the country would not end by 2018, however, it would decrease gradually. Talking to reporters, he said that Pakistan was incurring Rs 1,000 billion annual loss in power sector. According to the minister, government departments in Sindh were defaulter of Rs 53 billion, in Azad Kashmir Rs 5 billion, in Punjab Rs 4 billion and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rs 1 billion.
The minister said that it was expected that Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would clear their electricity dues by June this year. The federal minister, however, expressed apprehension over Sindh and Azad Kashmir on clearing of their dues. Asif added that the federal government had asked provinces to work out mechanism for early closure of markets.
