A Pakistani student in India's Pondicherry University, Ali Hassan Raza, who was attacked by unidentified persons inside his hostel room, is headed for Pakistan after the Indian authorities gave him permission to travel back home. In a telephonic conversation, Raza said that the Indian Home Ministry had permitted him to return to his home country, adding that he was being escorted by the Pondicherry police personnel.
He said the case was still pending and in case his presence was needed, he would come back and cooperate with the investigation. Raza said he was returning to his country as a victor as he achieved his aim of getting the post-graduate degree and goodwill of the people.
"I am the victor. Those who tried to detract me are losers," he said. Raza said he would put the incident at the back of his mind and leave it there, and think of it as a bad dream. Raza was attacked while sleeping by three unidentified men in his room at the Sir CV Raman Hostel on Tuesday. The attackers beat him with iron rods and liquor bottles. Raza sustained injuries on his head, neck and back. Raza was doing a post-graduate course in South Asian studies. He is the first and only Pakistani student in Pondicherry University.
