Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said there are deep-rooted relations between Pakistan and Japan and the rapid progress made by Japan is a role model for the world community. He was talking to Japanese Ambassador in Pakistan Hiroshi Inomata who called on him, here on Friday, disclosed an official.
On the occasion, matters of mutual interest, bilateral relations and co-operation in different sectors were discussed in the meeting. Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mian Yawar Zaman, Chairman Punjab Investment Board and Secretary Irrigation were also present.
Talking to the Japanese Ambassador, the CM said more than 60 percent of Pakistan's population comprises youth and the Punjab government is taking revolutionary measures for their empowerment. He also said 40,000 youth have so far been imparted skills under Skills Development Programme. "Japan should consider promotion of co-operation with the Punjab government in skills development and other sectors," he added.
According to him, Skills Development Programme is continuing successfully and the scope of this programme, which had been started in four districts of South Punjab, has been extended to 18 districts of Punjab. A plan has been evolved to expand Skills Development Programme to 36 districts of province so that maximum number of youth could be made skilful.
Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Inomata appreciated the measures taken for the progress of the province and development of education sector and said that services of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in this regard are commendable. "Japan wants to promote co-operation with the Punjab government in vocational education and other sectors," he added.
