More than 3,000 Chinese nationals have been evacuated from Vietnam as of Saturday afternoon, state media reported, after a wave of anti-China unrest following Beijing's deployment of an oil rig in contested waters. "They returned to China with the assistance of (the) Chinese Embassy to Vietnam," said Xinhua citing China's Foreign Ministry.
The move comes after riots left two Chinese nationals killed and more than 100 injured over the past week, according to Beijing, in Vietnam's worst anti-China protests in decades. The violence was sparked by Beijing's positioning of an oil rig in the resource-rich South China Sea, the centre of a territorial row between Vietnam and China.
