Quetta city witnessed on Saturday the worst traffic jams as the rain water inundated the main arteries leaving commuters including women and children stuck in their vehicles for hours. The city received precipitation started in the morning and rain water flooded all the roads due to faulty sewerage system and choked drains.
Flowing rain water on roads and lanes made the life stagnant in the city as long queues of vehicles stranded in traffic jams were witnessed in every nook and corner of the provincial capital. Rain water is reported to have entered in houses in low-lying areas of the city and the metropolitan corporation remained indifferent as usual and did not mobilise the available equipments in its warehouses to drain out rain water for convenience of the citizens.
Meanwhile, President Anjuman-e-Tajran Quetta, Naseer Tareen expressed his deep concern over worsening sanitation condition in the provincial capital and demanded of the city administration for taking concrete measures in this regard. Talking to APP here, he said the provincial government is spending huge amount on improvement of sewerage system yet the Quetta present a view of junkyard with mounds of garbage along every road and lanes in the city.
"The sewerage system across the city is in a poor state due to lack of attention by the civic departments which may expose the citizens particularly the children to variety of diseases," he said and demanded of the city administration for taking appropriate measures to improve cleanliness situation in the provincial capital.
