Prices of most of the essential kitchen items remained on high side last week as compared to the preceding week, reveals a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday. Perishable and non-perishable items showed an upward trend in their prices last week as compared to the preceding week, include potatoes, bananas, onions, chicken, eggs, pulses, curd and fresh milk.
During the period under review, potatoes were sold at Rs 70-75 per kg against Rs 65-70 per kg last week, reflecting an increase of Rs 5 per kg, bananas were available at Rs 165-210 per dozen against Rs 160-200 last week, registering an increase of Rs 5-10 per dozen, whereas onion was being sold at Rs 50-55 per kg against Rs 40-45 per kg last week, reflecting an increase of Rs 10 per kg. Similarly, chicken was being sold at Rs 160-165 per kg against Rs 150-155 per kg last week, registering an increase of Rs 10 per kg, eggs were available at Rs 80-85 per dozen, moong pulse washed at Rs 159 per kg against Rs 151 per kg last week, reflecting an increase of Rs 8 per kg, mash pulse washed at Rs 141 per kg against Rs 137 per kg last week the price registering an increase of Rs 4 per kg, masoor pulse washed was available at Rs 128 per kg, curd was being sold at Rs 110 per kg, milk fresh was being sold at Rs 100-110 per liter last week as compared to the preceding week.
Slight increase was noted in the prices of fresh vegetables last week as compared to the preceding week, as ladyfinger was sold at Rs 73-77, cabbage at Rs 43, radish at Rs 30, Karela at Rs 57, Shimla Mirch was being sold at Rs 60 per kg, lemon at Rs 70-75 per kg, ginger at Rs 300-350 per kg, garlic at Rs 150-200 per kg and green peas were being sold at Rs 70 per kg.
Prices of majority of fruits remained unchanged as apple was being sold at Rs 100-150 per kg, guava at Rs 60 per kg, watermelon and melon are being sold at Rs 40 per kg and Rs 45 per kg, respectively. Meat prices remain stable last week as compared to the preceding week, as beef was available at Rs 290- 320 per kg, while mutton was being sold at Rs 600-630 per kg.
Meanwhile, prices of non-perishable food items also remained stable during the period under review, as wheat flour bag of 20-kg is being sold at Rs 750-770, sugar at Rs 52 per kg, vegetable ghee loose at Rs 150-170 per kg, vegetable ghee tin (2.5kg) at Rs 514 per kg, cooking oil tin (2.5 Litre) at Rs 540 and basmati rice broken at Rs 75-80 per kg.
