At least ten Pakistani prisoners have been quietly released by the American military from the Bagram prison. The men had reportedly spent years in prison without trial and it was not immediately clear where the released Pakistani prisoners had been taken. In the meantime, the Justice Project Pakistan which represents Pakistani detainees at Bagram has said that the detainees were transferred to Pakistani custody.
The organisation has said that the International Committee of the Red Cross had told the men's families about the move. An American official familiar with the matter confirmed that the transfers had taken place. According to reports, the US military still has retained custody of foreign prisoners including Pakistanis whom the Afghan government does not want to deal with. The US military has already transferred the bulk of the Afghan prisoners to Afghan control. At least six prisoners was released in December, only to be secretly transferred to Pakistani prisons and held incommunicado for several weeks.
