Rain continued for the fourth day and heavy rain and dust storm followed by hailstorm, lightening played in Southern Punjab wreaked havoc as five people were killed and scores injured in rain-related incidents. Seventeen passengers were injured on Kabirwala-Jhang Road when a vehicle collided with a truck on Friday.
Similarly, a number of walls and roofs were collapsed causing the death of five people, including a teenage girl in separate incidents. Met office said that speed of dust storm was 88km/hour which had badly hit the mango crop and also devastated the recently sown cotton crop over 50,000 acres of land.
All the streets and Bazaars were flooded with one to two feet deep water. Wind storms hit the mango orchards, palm-trees in various cities, including Muzaffargarh, Khangarh, Rohillanwali, Shehr Sultan, Alipur, Shujabad, Jalalpur pirwala, Multan and Layyah uprooted trees, destroying signboards, roofs of huts besides adversely disrupting the power supply.
Half of Multan city was plunged into darkness due to tripping of dozen of feeders of the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO). More than 50 people were reported injured across the South Punjab in separate mishaps. WASA failed to pump out the water from the low-lying areas.
