Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has directed the departments of Livestock, Fisheries, Dairy Development and Agriculture for concentrating on increasing production and bringing improvement in the performance of these crucial sectors of the provincial economy.
He said that besides increasing production of agricultural and dairy products development of these sectors could also generate new opportunities of employment and investment. He asked the departments to present comprehensive plans in this regard to include them in annual development programme. However, he warned that departments and institutions showing poor performance will not be released more funds.
He issued directives while presiding over a meeting regarding development targets of the departments. The chief minister expressed sorrow over the matter that in past no attention was paid to the performance of departments and they become white elephants for the national exchequer. But, now he said targets would be fixed and they would also be followed. He said that the promotion of livestock and fisheries sectors could create attractive employment and profit for farmers.
The production of trout fish in Swat, Dir and other upper areas of Malakand Division had acclaimed international fame and even a hatchery established on one to two kanal plot. Similarly, he said there was huge potential for the development of livestock and dairy products in the province. He said that due to their unique taste cheese, yogurt and other dairy products of the area have big demand in the country.
He directed the authorities of the department for preparation of feasible development schemes. However, he said that real target was the direct participation of private sector and general public in these productive sectors. Advisor to the CM on Livestock & Co-operatives Mohibullah Khan, Advisor to the CM on Economic Affairs Rafaqatullah Babar, Secretary of Livestock Hussainzada, DG (Extension) Dr Sher Mohammad, DG (Research) Dr Ghufranullah, Director Fisheries Sharifullah Khan and Registrar Co-operatives, Ajmal Khan other officials attended the meeting.
In an another meeting regarding receipts and targets of the Department of Agriculture was attended by Provincial Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Mohammad Atif, Provincial Minister for Higher Education Mushtaq Ghani, Revenue Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Chief Secretary, Amjad Ali Khan, Additional Chief Secretary, Khalid Pervez, Secretary Finance, Said Badshah Bokhari and other officials.
