Government has decided to send a 40-member delegation, comprising representatives Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), to China to take part in the forthcoming China International SME Fair (CISMEF). The fair is scheduled to be held in October, this year, at Guangzhou city of Guangdong province.
Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority's (SMEDA) Media Co-ordinator, Liaquat Ali Gohar, told Business Recorder on Wednesday that "SMEDA has shown interest and accepted the fair's invitation." He said that 40 out of a total 3.2 million SMEs in the country would participate in the fair as Pakistan's delegates.
Giving break-up of the delegates, he said that Lahore Chamber and the SMEDA would select 20 delegates each. "CISMEF is emerging as a golden opportunity for Pakistan's SMEs to enhance their potential and marketing sense," he said, adding that the country would avail new opportunities in export by attending this fair as different sectors, including textile, food, horticulture, textile products, arts and crafts, will participate in the fair.
Moreover, this fair will help them in getting new orders and in this way bilateral trade will also be promoted between Pakistan and different countries, he opined. "The event can become a great international platform for introducing Pakistan's SMEs and their products in the world market," he said, adding that China being a global market will help attract international investors and earn foreign exchange for the country."
According to sources, SMEDA was invited to participate in the fair by deputy Director General of SME Bureau of Chinese, He Zouxian, when the former had a meeting with SMEDA's acting Chief Executive Officer, Alamgir Chaudhry, during his visit to the Authority's head office in Lahore. During the meeting, Zouxian assured Pakistan to offer special privilege and incentives to encourage Pakistani SMEs in the CISMEF-2014. CISMEF had successfully organized 10 exhibition since 2004 and attracted over 20, 000 exhibitors and 1.1 million visitors from all over the world, the sources added.
