Speakers at a function have highlighted the importance of book-reading and stressed the need for establishing public libraries and information resource centres to create awareness among the young generation about the rich Pakhtun cultural and history. The function was held under the auspices of Peshawar Uplift programme at the Saalim Khan Khalil library in Hayatabad here on Thursday.
Under the Peshawar Uplift programme, the Saalim Khan Khalil Library equipped with various facilities to develop it on modern lines. The main objective of the function was to hand over office equipment to the Saalim Khan library. The participants said the importance of book-reading has not been ignored in the modern era.
They stressed the government to take steps to provide facilities needed at public libraries and ensure available of relevant resource material, which would be easily available to students and the general public. Speaking on the occasion, Additional Secretary of Social Welfare Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Roohullah Khan appreciated the organisers for arranging such an informative event.
He said the libraries will have significance role for dissemination of various information and keep alive the culture and historic norms, by creating knowledge among the young generation. Other participants also emphasised the need for establishment of libraries and availability of facilities in exiting information resource centres and appreciated the Peshawar uplift programme for equipping the Saalim Khan Khalil Library with modern technology.
