Security on high alert across Islamabad: one killed, one injured in twin blasts
In the wake of twin bomb blasts at two different markets of the city in the wee hours of Saturday in which one person was killed and another seriously injured, the capital police put security on high alert across the federal capital, police said.
Police sources said that first blast took place at Super Market (Sector F-6) in the limits of Kohsar police station at around 2am and as a result one security guard, Muhammad Azam, 65, was killed and one Gulzar sustained injuries. Initially, police suspected that the man killed in the blast might be a suicide bomber, but later he was identified as security guard deployed at the market.
They said that the bomb at Super market occurred when a security guard Azam hit something present in a shopping bag at the parking area. The security guard lost his legs as a result of the blast, police shifted him to the hospital, but he died due to excessive bleeding, they said.
Soon after the blast, heavy contingent of police and rescue workers rushed to the blast site and sealed off the area. Police and other personnel of other law-enforcement agencies also conducted search in the area. A bomb disposal squad had also reached the site with sniffer dogs to determine the nature of the blast. Police shifted the body of the security guard killed in the blast and the injured to the Polyclinic hospital.
They said that after 30 minutes of the blast that occurred at the Supermarket, another bomb exploded at Karachi Company, located in Sector G-9 Markaz. The bomb was reportedly planted in a car in the limits of Margalla police station. However, no casualty was reported in the second blast, they said. Police said that shop were open in the market place at the time of the bomb blast. Police have registered case under section 308/14, 302, 324, 3/4 EA, 7ATA at Kohsar police station. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Aftab Cheema told media persons that police have identified the owner of the car as Fawad. The car was left outside a showroom two days ago.
